In the 19th century, the European aristocracy travelled to Corfu for its mild climate, rich heritage, lush vegetation and for the quality of its hotels. All that still rings true today, contributing to the appeal of this cosmopolitan island. Corfu is a magical island of the Ionian; a real slice of paradise.
Welcome to Corfu, which gives its name to both the island and the main town. You’ll be staying here for the duration of your stay: it’s a delight to stroll through the old town, with its pleasant maze of narrow streets, where you can have fun guessing the various architectural influences, including Venetian. From the historic center, take a stroll up to the Palaio Frourio, the old fort built at the end of a rocky peninsula, which offers lovely panoramic views. Or if you fancy a refreshing dip, take the 15-minute walk to the pier at the end of the harbour for an impromptu dip!
Day 2
Corfu history
Corfu city center
On your second day in Corfu, why not discover its history? A rich cultural heritage awaits you: from the church of Agios Spyridonas, the island’s patron saint, to the arches of Spianada Square, designed by the same architect as those of Rue de Rivoli in Paris, there’s something for everyone. You can also discover the island’s history by visiting its emblematic museums, such as the Corfu Archaeological Museum or the Byzantine Museum. If you’re a museum lover, don’t miss Corfu’s other special feature: a splendid Asian arts museum, the only one of its kind in Greece!
Day 3
Authentic Corfu
Pontikonisi
Today, it’s time to explore the island! Head for the many picturesque villages that make up the island’s charm: you can visit the village of Giannades, home to just 600 inhabitants but 2 excellent restaurants, or the villages of Agio Mathaios or Pelekas. Along the way, don’t forget to admire the panoramic sea views. For those looking for something a little more out of the ordinary, head for Pontikonisi, an islet with a monastery, or Achillieon, known as “Sissi’s palace” when Empress Elisabeth lived there.
Day 4
Culinary Corfu
Pastitsada
It’s sometimes said that you don’t know a place if you don’t know its cuisine… Corfu is brimming with local specialties, just waiting to be savored! Try the famous “pastitsada“, a recipe for coq au vin cooked in a secret way and served with typical pasta, or enjoy a “sofrito“, a typical veal dish accompanied by a white wine sauce with lemon and herbs. For fish lovers, don’t miss the “bourdeto“, a delicious spicy fish soup!
Day 5
Corfu by the sea
Corfu beach
On your fifth day here, you can relax and enjoy Corfu’s magnificent beaches. Between the east and west coasts, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Why not trust our team’s recommendations? Paleokastritsa is one of the team’s favorites, for its multiplicity of beaches (sand, pebbles, rocks, caves, everything is there). For romantics, Sidari and its famous “love canal” offer an idyllic setting for relaxing by the sea.
Day 6
See you soon!
Ceramic
Before heading home, take one last stroll through Corfu’s delightful alleyways. If you’re looking for a souvenir to remind you of your stay, look no further than the ceramics workshops – the island is renowned for its mastery and expertise in this craft.
